South Danish Archipelago & German Baltic Sea XL

South Danish Archipelago & German Baltic Sea XL (10 Days/9 Nights, approx. 195 km )

“Our South Sea” is what the Danes proudly call this enchanting mix of endless sandy beaches, brilliantly-white chalk cliffs, countless islands and small harbour towns with colourful houses. It is with pleasure that we are able to offer a journey through this magnificent world with sailing boat and bike.
With our barkentine Atlantis are a whole new way in which to discover the Danish South Sea.

On board of the Atlantis we will navigate our way to several harbour towns and quiet bays, followed by the active exploration of beautiful landscapes by bike. More often than not, the boat will continue sailing, whilst you are busy spinning your pedals, in order to meet you at your next destination. In some harbours or bays, in which the Atlantis cannot dock, the crew will ferry you to land in the ships tender.

On the bike tours, your tour guide will lead you through beautiful settings and to the most important local sights. In preparation for each cycle tour, you will learn of the distance and difficulty of each tour, from your tour guide, enabling you to make an informed decision as to whether or not you wish to take part on the cycling tour or if you would prefer to navigate your way to the next destination on board of the Atlantis.

Good to know: All our tours in Denmark are operated by a partner tour operator, experts in the field, and can vary in their execution in comparison to traditional Islandhopping tours.

2nd Day Kiel – Klimtholm/Island of Møn (Sailing day)

„Cast off!“ We are sailing all day long into direction of the island of Møn. Sailing enthusiasts can take an active part in the sailing of the ship. For those who would rather watch, it‘s enough to enjoy the fresh sea breeze or to settle down with a book they have always wanted to read. Our ship takes us to the little harbour town Klintholm on the Island of Møn.

3rd Day Island of Møn (aprx. 27 mi./43 km)

After breakfast our first cycle tour takes us across the island. The cliff coast of Klint is truly a highlight. The chalk cliff at the eastern part of the island is 128 m high. Enjoy the amazing view across the Baltic Sea. As soon as everyone is aboard the Atlantis takes off for Køge, which is one of the best preserved middle age towns of Denmark.

4th Day Island of Sjælland / Køge - Roskilde (aprx. 22 mi./36 km)

Cycling tour from Køge, situated in the south of Copenhagen, to the Royal Citiy of Roskilde. Around noon you arrive at Køge lovely located along the unique and winding Roskilde Fjord. We take a walk to the mighty cathedral, which is UNESCO World Heritage. 37 danish kings and queens are buried there. Take some time to stroll along the harbor for a while, before we take a train to Copenhagen. Your proud ship Atlantis awaits you in front of Copenhagen castle.

5th Day Copenhagen – on a visit to the little mermaid (aprx. 16 mi./25 km)

Copenhagen is multi-faceted: palaces, „island“, colourful Christiania, the Royal Garden and Rosenborg Castle, a charming old town center as well as places with Mediterranean flair. Copenhagen will capture everybody‘s heart. And in addition it is one of the cycle-friendliest cities of Europe. You may explore the lovely town as you like – go for a bike ride or just stroll around a while. Feel free to ask our tour guide about the hidden gems. He’ll be pleased to help.

6th Day Bye-bye Copenhagen (Sailing day)

We wave „Goodbye“ to the Little Mermaid ponderingly sitting on her rock in the harbour. The Danish Riviera escorts us a while sailing on our way to Samsø.

7th Day Island of Samsø / Kolby Kås or Ballen Havn - Tranebjerg (aprx. 34 mi/54 km)

Samsø, the sunny island of Denmark, is almost unknown. The isle will put a spell on you with its tranquillity and peacefulness. We get over to Kolby Kås or Ballen Havn by dinghy. Our cycle tour takes us to Tranebjerg with a stop for lunch in Ballebjerg. In the afternoon we cast a glance at the archipelago with its bird preserve Stavens Fjord. Back at the Atlantis in the afternoon we head south. Dinner in the harbor of Nyborg on the
island of Funen.

On our way out of town we pass the defiant castle of Nyborg. We head south into direction of the sun. Our first stop is a mill, while the Atlantis leaves the harbour. We pass the impressive Holckenhavn castle and will enjoy our lunch close to the sea. We continue cycling till the Skarupøre sound, where we entert he Atlantis by dinghy. We sail cheerful across the sound to the natural harbour of the lively town Svendborg. Charming street cafes invite to stay awhile. Enjoy and relax.

9th Day Island of Ærø (aprx. 25 mi/40 km)

The island of Ærø appears like pocket sized Denmark. Tiny little villages with colourful and thached roof houses along our route. An impressive cliff coast at Vorderup Klint offers a wide view across the sea as well as a lovely spot for a break. We get to Ærøskøbing around lunch time. No place is more romantic than the islands capital. Narrow lanes, metres high hollyhocks, a marketplace with old water pumps … let‘s stroll
around and enjoy. We hop on board in Søby in the afternoon and set sails while heading to Kiel.

10th Day Kiel-Holtenau (Farewell/Disembarkation)

After an extensive breakfast it’s time to say Goodbye to Crew, ship and companions. Your bags packed, reminiscing and with a lot of pictures on your memory card you return home.

Ships

Atlantis (Tallship)

At 57 x 7.5 m, 14 sails and over 750 sqm sail surface the Atlantis is a guaranteed eye catcher in every harbor. Built in 1905 and christened Elbe 2, the Atlantis served faithfully as a light vessel in the North Sea, Germany. Afterwards she was elaborately restorated as a tallship for passenger cruises.

The renovation featured a classy salon, a spacious upper deck including seats and a cocktail bar as well as 17 comfortable air conditioned guest cabins including a shower and toilet. The unique charm of the Atlantis is due to the loving care of the inventory and to a helpful and greatly experienced crew.

The Atlantis operates for Islandhopping on the Balearic Islands in Spain as well as in the South Funen Archipelago in Denmark.

Requirements (Level 2 - 3)

Moderate tours in a hilly countryside with stages of 6 to 38 miles (10 to 55 km) on remote asphalt roads. In some places even unpaved country lanes are used. Main roads with dense traffic and no cycleway are only used in short exceptional cases. Long and steep ascents hardly ever occur, however, a hilly countryside with regular ups and downs must be considered. Depending on the wind direction we must accept a strong headwind from time to time.

This tour is primarily a guided group tour. Upon consultation with your tour guides, the possibility to cycle on your own along recommended, suitable routes, may present itself.

Requirement to wear a helmet

On our tours you are obliged to wear a helmet. You are strongly encouraged to bring your own (well-fitted) helmet. At any time a cycling tour can replace a boat trip or vice versa. The daily program is shaped by weather conditions and the relevant captain’s decisions.

Bringing children

We believe that only children in a good physical condition and with a minimum age of 10 and previous bicycle tour experience are able to master the bike-tours on their own strength. Please note that the minimum height for a rental bike is 1.50 m (4.11 ft.).

Luggage

Please bring your personal belongings in foldable travel bags. Please avoid hard protective cases. They will be too heavy to store within your cabin.

Payment on Board

Cash only! No cards accepted.

Language aboard

Due to our international audience all Islandhopping tours are conducted bilingually, in English and German.
