Itinerary Multicultural South Africa In Johannesburg, the largest city in South Africa, the diversity of this country, its history and culture are expressed more vividly than anywhere else in the country. The story of this vibrant city in the Gauteng Province dates back to the 19th century Gold Rush. Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela once lived in the neighbouring suburbs of Soweto. The former residence is now the Nelson Mandela Museum. Nowhere else can you learn more about the apartheid and its far-reaching impact on the lives of modern South Africans than on a bike tour of Soweto. Guided by a competent local guide, this tour is included in our extension tour program. 1. Day (Sat) – Arrival in Johannesburg Our transfer driver will await you at the airport on arrival in Johannesburg and will bring you to the Radisson Blue Hotel. The rest of the day if free for you to use as you please, possibly for a first orientation tour through the vibrant city of Johannesburg. We recommend asking the hotel reception for tips in regard to the top attractions in the city and for information regarding the public transport as well as the popular Hop-On-Hop-Off buses. The night is spent in the hotel in Johannesburg. 2. Day (Sun) – Bike tour in Soweto After a wholesome breakfast in the hotel, a transfer will take you to Soweto. Here a four hour long guided bike tour will take you through the township which today stands as a symbol for the former apartheid. The tour comes to an end with a traditional lunch, followed by a transfer back to Johannesburg where you can spend the rest of your day enjoying the lively city. Program Day 1 Day 2
