Discover the beauty of the Greek Agean by Bike & Boat

Greece is a country with many different facets, but the typical “Greek” postcard image of white houses with blue doors and windows can only be found on the Cyclades. It is these houses along with the labyrinthine of lanes that create the architectural character of the islands, presenting Greece from its most distinguishable side. It was here that the first European high culture emerged, more than 5,000 years ago. The mostly jagged coasts are characterized by impressive geological formations, turquoise blue sea, and unique sandy beaches. Our journey takes us through the Greek Aegean to the Cyclade Islands; Amorgos, Naxos, and Paros, and the Dodecanese Islands; Kalymnos, Astypalaia, and Kos. A wonderful taste of the variety Greece has to offer.

1st Day
Bodrum (Embarkation) – Kalymnos Island
Individual arrival in Bodrum harbour. A collective transfer from Bodrum Airport to the harbour is available for an extra cost on request. Check in begins on the gullet at 2 pm. At 4 pm the ship leaves for the island of Kalymnos where we spent the night.
2nd Day Kalymnos Island – Amorgos Island
(aprx. 19 mi./30 km)
Our first bike tour leads from the harbour of Pothia, a town which once thrived on the sponge trade, across the island to the other side. In the afternoon, there is plenty of time to enjoy the salty sea breeze on a longer crossing to Amorgos Island.
3rd Day Amorgos Island (aprx. 13 mi./21 km)
The island of Amorgos is a picture-perfect dream in white and blue with a wonderfully tranquil atmosphere. On today's cycling tour we are able to truly experience traditional Greece as the island of Amorgos is still largely untouched by modern day tourism. We cycle from Ormos Aigiali across the island to Katapola, passing the island’s capital, Chora, along the way, whose winding streets and pretty cafes entice us in for a visit. In the afternoon, we sail to Naxos. The sunset at the Apollo Temple in the town of Naxos is truly spectacular while the impressive old town, with its towering fortress, is the perfect place for a long evening stroll.
4th Day Naxos Island (aprx. 22 mi./35 km)
After breakfast we start our cycle tour, which leads through the untouched mountain landscape of Naxos Island. Along the way, we visit a wonderful example of classical Greek architecture, the beautifully situated sanctuary of Demeter, the Greek goddess of harvest and agriculture. Back in Naxos town, the ship awaits us for the crossing to Naoussa on Paros. The picturesque town of Naoussa is sure to keep any photography enthusiasts on the trip happy and busy! An evening stroll through the winding streets and a visit to one of the many beautiful taverns in the harbour round off the eventful day.
5th Day Paros and Astypalaia Island
(aprx. 19 mi./30 km)
Paros is a tranquil and, in parts, very green island, best known for its export of radiant white, translucent marble. Today we start our cycling tour in Naoussa and head towards the island’s capital, Parikia, where we recommend a visit to the famous Panagia Ekatontapyliani, the Church of 100 Doors. We then continue our tour across Paros Island to the small port of Piso Livadi, where we board the ship once more to sail on to Astypalaia.
6th Day Astypalaia Island (aprx. 10 mi./17 km)
Astypalaia is the westernmost of the Dodecanese Islands, and is also known as the bridge to the Cyclades. Unspoiled nature, white villages and the surrounding deep blue sea characterize this lovely island. Today's bike tour offers an almost constant view of the sea, taking us from the main town of Chora with its fortress towering high above the village to Analipsi. The ship awaits us in Analipsi for a crossing to Kos.
7th Day
Kos Island to Asklipieion
(aprx. 7 mi./12 km) or to Embros thermal springs (aprx. 14 mi./23 km)
Our last cycling tour leads to the famous Asklepieion, home of Hippocrates, father of modern-day medicine. An alternative route for those who would like a longer ride leads to the Embros thermal springs, where there is time to enjoy a relaxing soak. In the afternoon, we enjoy our final cruise back to Bodrum. A cheerful evening meal is spent in the company of the guides, crew, and fellow guests.
8th Day Bodrum (Disembarkation)
After breakfast disembarkation. Collective transfers to Bodrum Airport on request.

Arrival - How to get there

Port of embarkation Bodrum

This tour begins and ends in Bodrum harbour, Turkey, easily reached by airplane via Bodrum Airport. In order to avoid any travel complications whilst crossing the borders, we request that all guests obtain the appropriate travel documentation and visas before arrival on site. Check in begins at 2 pm. The Boat will leave from Bodrum at 4 pm.

Bodrum harbour is very large. Therefore, we recommend booking a transfer with us to save yourself the time looking for the Islandhopping-boat.

How to find our boats in the harbour

Should you wish to make your own way to the boat, you will find our boats Love Boat and Elara 1 in the Halikarnas Marina (when looking out to sea, on the left-hand side of the fortress of St. Peter). The Osman Kurt will be located in the big yacht harbour (when looking out to sea, on the right-hand side of the fortress of St. Peter). Most commonly she will be moored next to the Datca Ferry dock, however in the height of summer it is possible that she will be moored directly below the fortress of St. Peter in the vicinity of the customs office. In order to locate the boat as quickly as possible, please contact our regional manager. You will find his mobile phone number in your travel documents.

Arrival by plane

A flight is the fastest, easiest, and most economical way to get to Turkey.

The closest airport is Bodrum (BJV). Most flights go to Izmir airport (ADB), which is situated about three hours from Bodrum. During the high season it is also possible to fly directly to Bodrum Airport.

From the airport to the harbour

You can prebook an exclusive airport transfer from Bodrum Airport to Bodrum Harbour for 15 euro/person/way (day of embarkation/disembarkation only).

If you prefer an exclusive airport transfer, please contact our office by email or phone:

Additional nights in Bodrum

We are happy to arrange additional nights with breakfast in Bodrum, the starting point of your trip. Bodrum, the ancient Halicarnassus, is one of the liveliest coastal towns in Turkey. It owes its importance above all to its coastal location and its beautiful seafront promenade which comes to life in the evening with street artists, restaurants, bars, and a beautiful view over the sea. There are also many cultural sights and great beaches.

Important information

Spoken language

Due to our international audience all Islandhopping tours are conducted bilingually, in English and German.

Itinerary changes

We reserve the right to make changes to the itinerary, depending on wind and weather conditions or organizational requirements. Sometimes the tour will be run in reverse order. Our tours are dependent on weather conditions and the final decision is that of the captain. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend time on board the boat, instead of taking a planned bike-tour.

Requirements

Level 2 - 3

Aside from two challenging cycle tours on Kalymnos and Kos, this trip can be counted as one of the less difficult Islandhopping trips. The cycling routes require a basic level of fitness, which you should have acquired through regular cycling. The routes can reach an altitude of 200 to 500 meters. The daily routes of around 20 – 45 km/12 – 28 mi. will take us up through hilly and mountainous terrain and can be completed without time constraints. You will also come across some longer and rather steep climbs, where walking your bike is of course permitted. Participants will also need to master long and steep climbs, during which they are, however, also permitted to push their bicycles. Upon consultation with your tour guides, it may be possible for you to cycle on your own along suitable, recommended routes.

Guided group pace

On our regular cycling tours, the cyclists on regular bicycles determine the pace. We ask guests who have reserved an e-bike to be mindful of this and to acknowledge that the regular cyclists need time to rest and take longer to climb the hills. We thank you for your understanding.

Requirement to wear a helmet

Helmets are mandatory on our bike tours. It is advised to bring your own, well fitted, helmet with you as our rental helmet numbers are limited (reservation required).

Bringing children

We believe that only children in a good physical condition and with a minimum age of 10 and previous bicycle tour experience are able to master the cycle tours with their own strength. Please note that the minimum height for a rental bike is 1.50 m (5 ft.) for hybrid bikes.

For the best tour experience with children, we recommend our Multi-Adventure Cruises in Croatia or Greece. We are convinced that these itineraries provide the best all-round experience for each individual family member.

Bringing private bikes & exclusion of private e-bikes

The tour which you have booked requires a bike with a fully functional set of gears. Islandhopping can offer you high quality, fully serviced rental bikes perfect for the terrain of this tour.

Should you however wish to bring your own hybrid bicycle with you, please make sure to check the condition of your breaks, gears, and tires and don’t forget to bring along a puncture repair kit and the essential spare parts for your bike (e.g. brake pads and spare tubes). Your bike should be in prefect mechanical working order.

We do not allow private e-bikes on board of our boats. This decision has been made due to health and safety regulations. If you wish to ride an e-bike for the duration of your tour, please get in touch with us about the rental options.

We do not recommend bringing along private road bikes, as the thin tires are not suitable for some of the road surfaces encountered on the tours.

Liability disclaimer: Radurlaub Zeitreisen GmbH. Will not be held liable for any damages caused to private bikes during loading, unloading or other logistical handling thereof.

Noise on board

Please do not forget that the ship is your hotel as well as a machine, which has to be maintained and operated – day and night. A certain level of noise is therefore inevitable.

Internet Availability

Our Turkish boats do not offer a WiFi connection. If you need to connect to the internet during the tour, we recommend bringing your portable electronic device to a cafe or bar somewhere in the harbour. Free WiFi is on offer almost everywhere. If you order something to eat or drink, then you are able to use the WiFi to your hearts content.

Custom formalities when crossing the border

Our tour will start from Bodrum. In order to avoid any travel complications whilst crossing the borders, we request that all guests obtain the appropriate travel documentation and visas before arrival on site.
