South Danish Archipelago & German Baltic Sea XL

South Danish Archipelago & German Baltic Sea XL

(10 Days/9 Nights, approx. 195 km )

“Our South Sea” is what the Danes proudly call this enchanting mix of endless sandy beaches, brilliantly-white chalk cliffs, countless islands and small harbour towns with colourful houses. It is with pleasure that we are able to offer a journey through this magnificent world with sailing boat and bike.
With our barkentine Atlantis are a whole new way in which to discover the Danish South Sea.

On board of the Atlantis we will navigate our way to several harbour towns and quiet bays, followed by the active exploration of beautiful landscapes by bike. More often than not, the boat will continue sailing, whilst you are busy spinning your pedals, in order to meet you at your next destination. In some harbours or bays, in which the Atlantis cannot dock, the crew will ferry you to land in the ships tender.

On the bike tours, your tour guide will lead you through beautiful settings and to the most important local sights. In preparation for each cycle tour, you will learn of the distance and difficulty of each tour, from your tour guide, enabling you to make an informed decision as to whether or not you wish to take part on the cycling tour or if you would prefer to navigate your way to the next destination on board of the Atlantis.

Good to know:All our tours in Denmark are operated by a partner tour operator, experts in the field, and can vary in their execution in comparison to traditional Islandhopping tours.

This itinerary has been updated for 2021. The itinerary, prices and services should remain unchanged. All tour dates for 2021 are now online and available to book.

Atlantis (Tallship)

At 57 x 7.5 m, 14 sails and over 750 sqm sail surface the Atlantis is a guaranteed eye catcher in every harbor. Built in 1905 and christened Elbe 2, the Atlantis served faithfully as a light vessel in the North Sea, Germany. Afterwards she was elaborately restorated as a tallship for passenger cruises.

The renovation featured a classy salon, a spacious upper deck including seats and a cocktail bar as well as 16 comfortable air conditioned guest cabins including a shower and toilet. The unique charm of the Atlantis is due to the loving care of the inventory and to a helpful and greatly experienced crew.

The Atlantis operates for Islandhopping on the Balearic Islands in Spain as well as in the South Funen Archipelago in Denmark.

It’s up to the captain. But it is for sure that we will explore the German coast of the Baltic Sea and the islands of the Danish South Funen Archipelago wherever the winds may blow.

Requirements (Level 2)

Not too difficult tours with generally flat stages of 15 to 38 miles (25 to 55 km) on remote asphalt roads. In some places even unpaved country lanes are used. Main roads with dense traffic and no cycleway are only used in short exceptional cases. Long and steep ascents hardly ever occur, however, a hilly countryside with regular ups and downs must be considered. Depending on the wind direction we must accept a strong headwind from time to time.

This tour is primarily a guided group tour. Upon consultation with your tour guides, the possibility to cycle on your own along recommended, suitable routes, may present itself.

Requirement to wear a helmet

On our tours you are obliged to wear a helmet. You are strongly encouraged to bring your own (well-fitted) helmet. At any time a cycling tour can replace a boat trip or vice versa. The daily program is shaped by weather conditions and the relevant captain’s decisions.

Bringing children

We believe that only children in a good physical condition and with a minimum age of 10 and previous bicycle tour experience are able to master the bike-tours on their own strength. Please note that the minimum height for a rental bike is 1.50 m (4.11 ft.).

Please bring your personal belongings in foldable travel bags. Please avoid hard protective cases. They will be too heavy to store within your cabin.

Payment on Board

Cash only! No cards accepted.

Language aboard

Due to our international audience all Islandhopping tours are conducted bilingually, in English and German.

Good to know

On our regular cycling tours the riding pace is determined by the cyclists on regular bicycles. We ask guests who have reserved an e-bike to be mindful of this and to acknowledge that also the regular cyclists need time to rest and longer to climb the hills. Thank you for your understanding.

Bringing private bikes & EXCLUSION of private E-BIKES

The tour which you have booked requires a bike with a fully functional set of gears. Islandhopping can offer you high quality, fully serviced rental bikes perfect for the terrain of this tour.

Should you however wish to bring your own hybrid or MTB with you, please make sure to check the condition of your breaks, gears, and tires and don’t forget to bring along a puncture repair kit and the essential spare parts for your bike (e.g. brake pads and tubes). Your bike should be in prefect mechanical working order.

We do not allow private e-bikes on board of our boats. This decision has been made due to health and safety regulations. If you wish to ride an e-bike for the duration of your tour, please get in touch with us about the rental options.

We do not recommend bringing along private road bikes, as the thin tires are not suitable for some of the road surfaces encountered on the tours.

Liability disclaimer: Radurlaub Zeitreisen GmbH. Will not be held liable for any damages caused to private bikes during loading, unloading or other logisitical handling thereof.
