Sail and bike experience through the Baltic Archipelago

“Our South Sea” is what the Danes proudly call the enchanting mix of endless sandy beaches, brilliantly white chalk cliffs, countless islands, and small harbour towns with their characteristic colourful houses. We are truly glad to be able to offer a journey through this magnificent world by sailing boat and bike. On board the Atlantis we navigate our way to several harbour towns and quiet bays, while on land we actively explore the beautiful landscapes by bike. More often than not, the boat will continue sailing while we are busy pedalling in order to meet us at our next destination. On all bike tours, your tour guide leads the way through beautiful scenery to the most important local sights. Those hungry for more adventure can help the crew set the sails during the ship’s crossings.

1st Day Kiel-Holtenau/Germany
(Embarkation at Holtenau)
The tall ship the Atlantis and her crew await us at the harbour Kiel-Holtenau. Check in is at 8 pm followed by a light evening meal during which there is time to mingle and get to know the guides and fellow travellers.
2nd Day Kiel – Klimtholm/Island of Møn
(Sailing day)
“Cast off!” Today we have a full day of sailing all the way to the island of Møn. Sailing enthusiasts are welcome to actively take part in sailing the ship. For those who would rather simply watch or relax, there is plenty of space to enjoy the fresh sea breeze and to settle down with a book. Our destination for the day is the little harbour town Klintholm on the Island of Møn.
3rd Day Island of Møn (aprx. 27 mi./43 km)
After breakfast, our first cycle tour takes us across the island of Møn. The cliffy coast of Klint is a true highlight of the trip. The chalk cliffs on the eastern part of the island rise up to 128 m. Enjoy the amazing view across the Baltic Sea. As soon as everyone is back on board, the Atlantis casts off for Køge, one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Denmark.
4th Day Sjælland / Køge - Roskilde
(aprx. 22 mi./36 km)
Today we cycle from Køge, situated in the south of Copenhagen, to the royal city of Roskilde, which we reach around noon. This city is in a wonderfully unique location on the winding Roskilde Fjord. Once there, we take a walk to the city’s impressive cathedral, a protected UNESCO World Heritage site and the burial place of 37 Danish kings and queens. Take some time to stroll along the harbour before we take a train to Copenhagen. Our proud ship, the Atlantis, awaits us in front of Copenhagen castle.
5th Day Copenhagen – on a visit to the little mermaid (aprx. 16 mi./25 km)
Copenhagen is a truly multi-faceted city, home to palaces, a floating “island”, the colourful Christiania, the Royal Garden and Rosenborg Castle, and a charming old town centre. The city even has a touch of Mediterranean flair. Copenhagen never fails to find a way into everyone’s hearts. It is also one of the most cycle-friendly cities in Europe. You may choose how you would like to explore the town, either by bike or on foot. Feel free to ask your tour guide about the city’s hidden gems and most importantly: enjoy and have fun!
6th Day Goodbye Copenhagen (Sailing day)
It is now time to wave goodbye to the Little Mermaid sitting wistfully on her rock in the harbour. We follow the Danish Riviera for a while as we navigate towards Samsø.
7th Day Island of Samsø / Kolby Kås or Ballen Havn - Tranebjerg (aprx. 34 mi/54 km)
Samsø, the sunny island of Denmark, is a true hidden treasure and enchants with its beauty and peaceful atmosphere. A ride in the dinghy brings us to Kolby Kås or Ballen Havn. Once on land, we cycle to Tranebjerg with a stop for lunch in Ballebjerg. In the afternoon, we catch a glance of the archipelago with its bird reserve, Stavens Fjord. Once back on the Atlantis we head south. In the evening, we enjoy dinner in the harbour of Nyborg on the Island of Funen.
8th Day Island of Funen (Fyn)/ Nyborg - Svendborg (aprx. 28 mi/45 km)
On our way out of town we pass the magnificent castle of Nyborg, heading south in the direction of the sun. As we start cycling towards our first destination, a traditional mill, the Atlantis leaves the harbour. We pass the impressive Holckenhavn castle and enjoy our lunch close to the sea. Afterwards, we continue cycling until we reach the Skarupøre Sound, where we board the Atlantis by dinghy. We sail across the sound to the natural harbour of Svendborg, where charming street cafes tempt us to stay awhile. Time to enjoy and relax.
9th Day Island of Ærø (aprx. 25 mi/40 km)
The island of Ærø is almost like a pocket-sized Denmark. Along our way we pass tiny villages with their colourful, thatched roofed houses. An impressive cliff coast at Vorderup Klint offers a panoramic view across the sea, the perfect spot for a break. We arrive in Ærøskøbing, the romantic island capital, around lunch time. The town enchants with its narrow lanes, metre high hollyhocks, and its marketplace with old water pumps. Here, we have plenty of time for a stroll and to simply enjoy the atmosphere. We hop back on board the Atlantis in Søby in the afternoon and set sail to Kiel.
10th Day Kiel-Holtenau (Farewell/Disembarkation)
After breakfast it’s time to say goodbye to the crew, ship, guides, and travel companions. With our bags packed and plenty of wonderful memories and beautiful pictures we return home.

Accommodation

Atlantis (Tall Ships)

The Atlantis is a guaranteed eye catcher in every harbor. Built in 1905 and christened Elbe 2, the Atlantis served faithfully as a light vessel in the North Sea, Germany. Afterwards she was elaborately restorated as a tallship for passenger cruises.

The renovation featured a classy salon, a spacious upper deck including seats and a cocktail bar as well as 16 comfortable air conditioned guest cabins including a shower and WC. A true highlight and centerpiece of the Atlantis is the open air bar, where the dedicated crew conjure creative beverages and cocktails for the guests. Mealtimes are…

Important information

Characteristic feature of the Tallship Atlantis

Our Tallship mostly does not fit into small fishing harbors and therefore spends the majority of their nights on anchor. This means that a dinghy transfer is necessary to get to land. Surefootedness and a certain degree of agility are required to get on and off the boat. Needless to say, our tour guides will lend you a helping hand. In general: Wind, swell and tidal differences have a significant influence on a Tallship journey.

Spoken language

Due to our international audience all Islandhopping tours are conducted bilingually, in English and German.

Itinerary changes

We reserve the right to make changes to the itinerary, depending on wind and weather conditions or organizational requirements. Sometimes the tour will be run in reverse order. Our tours are dependent on weather conditions and the final decision is that of the captain. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend time on board the boat, instead of taking a planned bike-tour.

Requirements

Level 2

Tours are of a moderate difficulty level and are generally fairly flat, ranging in length between of 15 to 38 miles/25 to 55 km on remote asphalt roads. Unpaved country roads are cycled at times. Main roads with heavy traffic and no separate cycle paths are only ever used in exceptional cases and for short distances. Long and steep climbs are rare, however, hilly countryside with regular ascents and descents do occur. Depending on the direction of the wind, there may be times where cycling into a strong headwind in necessary.

Guided group pace

On most of our Bike & Boat tours you can choose between a hybrid bike and an e-bike. However, the guided group pace is based on the speed of the hybrid bike cyclists. Those who rent an e-bike on a hybrid bike tour are asked to show consideration for those who ride without electronic assistance. Hybrid bike cyclists need more breaks and more time to cycle the hills. We thank you for your understanding.

Requirement to wear a helmet

Helmets are mandatory on our bike tours. It is advised to bring your own, well fitted, helmet with you as our rental helmet numbers are limited (reservation required).

Bringing children

We believe that only children in a good physical condition and with a minimum age of 10 and previous bicycle tour experience are able to master the cycle tours with their own strength. Please note that the minimum height for a rental bike is 1.50 m (5 ft.) for hybrid bikes.

For the best tour experience with children, we recommend our Multi-Adventure Cruises in Croatia or Greece. We are convinced that these itineraries provide the best all-round experience for each individual family member.

Bringing private bikes & exclusion of private e-bikes

The tour which you have booked requires a bike with a fully functional set of gears. Islandhopping can offer you high quality, fully serviced rental bikes perfect for the terrain of this tour.

Should you however wish to bring your own hybrid bicycle with you, please make sure to check the condition of your breaks, gears, and tires and don’t forget to bring along a puncture repair kit and the essential spare parts for your bike (e.g. brake pads and spare tubes). Your bike should be in prefect mechanical working order.

We do not allow private e-bikes on board of our boats. This decision has been made due to health and safety regulations. If you wish to ride an e-bike for the duration of your tour, please get in touch with us about the rental options.

We do not recommend bringing along private road bikes, as the thin tires are not suitable for some of the road surfaces encountered on the tours.

Liability disclaimer: Radurlaub Zeitreisen GmbH. Will not be held liable for any damages caused to private bikes during loading, unloading or other logistical handling thereof.

Luggage

Please bring your personal belongings in foldable travel bags. Please avoid hard protective cases. They will be too heavy to store within your cabin.

Catering

This tour includes full board. All days will include brakfast, lunch and dinner on board.

Payment on board

Payment by card is not possible on board

Noise on board

Please do not forget that the ship is your hotel as well as a machine, which has to be maintained and operated – day and night. A certain level of noise is therefore inevitable.
