Day 1 Arrival in Hurghada – El Gouna
Your journey begins at Hurghada Airport, where a Boat Bike Tours representative will welcome you and arrange your Egyptian visa on the spot — a seamless service included in your package for a completely stress-free start. From there, enjoy a smooth transfer to the Red Sea resort of El Gouna, where you’ll check in to the 4-star Three Corners Ocean View Hotel, your deluxe base for the next two nights. Your Tour Director will be waiting at the hotel to assist with check-in and ensure you feel at home from the very first moment. In the evening, gather with your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner and your first taste of warm Egyptian hospitality, setting the tone for the adventure ahead.
Day 2 El Gouna Cycling & Red Sea Leisure
(29 km/18 mi.)
After a leisurely breakfast, your Tour Director will guide you through a personalized bike fitting, ensuring comfort and confidence for the days ahead. Begin your adventure with a morning ride through El Gouna’s palm-lined boulevards, along tranquil canals, and past the luxury marina — a stunning meeting point of desert and sea. The afternoon is yours to enjoy at your own pace: swim, snorkel in the crystal-clear Red Sea, or simply unwind by the water. In the early evening, join an orientation walk through the lively marina before exploring on your own. Dinner is at your leisure tonight, either at the hotel or at one of the many inviting restaurants along the marina promenade.
Day 3 El Gouna – Dendera – Luxor
After a relaxed start, leave the Red Sea coast behind and travel inland by coach. Pause for a traditional local lunch before exploring the vibrant Temple of Dendera, where ceilings still glow with vivid blues and golds. In the afternoon, continue to Luxor, once the capital of the ancient world, and step aboard your floating home for the week: the superior-class H/S Nebu. As the Nile begins to weave its timeless spell, enjoy your first dinner in the ship’s elegant dining room — the perfect start to your adventure.
Day 4 Luxor East Bank
(26 km/16 mi.)
Begin the day cycling through Luxor toward the monumental Karnak Temple, a vast complex of sanctuaries, pylons, and colossal columns rising like a forest of stone. After exploring this iconic site, continue into the surrounding farmlands and pause for a relaxed picnic-style lunch, soaking in the rhythms of rural life. In the afternoon, cycle back toward Luxor to visit the magnificent Luxor Temple, glowing beautifully in the soft light of late afternoon. Return to your ship for the evening, which features a lively onboard performance of traditional dance.
Day 5 Luxor – Esna
(51 km/32 mi.)
Today’s ride follows quiet roads south along the Nile, through a timeless landscape where farmers still cultivate their fields much as they did thousands of years ago. Pass village houses and groves of date palms, perfect spots for relaxed pauses along the way. Enjoy a packed lunch in the open air before continuing to Esna, where a beautifully preserved temple and bustling market offer a glimpse into both ancient heritage and vibrant daily life. By late afternoon, return to the H/S Nebu and settle in as the ship carries you deeper into Upper Egypt.
Day 6 Kom Ombo & Aswan
(31 km/ 19 mi.)
Early this morning, step ashore for a guided visit to the riverside Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to both Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus, the falcon. Afterward, sail onward to Aswan, gateway to Nubia. Following lunch on board, set out by bike along the West Bank to a Nubian village, where you’ll meet local residents, visit a community school, and gain insight into daily life along the Nile. Return across the river by traditional felucca, a sailing boat that has transported travelers for centuries. In the evening, enjoy dinner on board followed by a vibrant Nubian show in the lounge, celebrating the music, dance, and spirit of southern Egypt.
Day 7 Aswan & Philae Temple
(35 km/ 22 mi.)
The day begins with a motorboat ride through the Aswan Nature Reserve, gliding past lush riverbanks alive with birdlife and views of Elephantine Island. From a nearby village, set out by bike, pedaling to the monumental High Dam and ancient granite quarries where Egypt’s colossal statues once began their journey. Take a break here and visit the High Dam. Pause for a traditional Nubian lunch before continuing to the island Temple of Philae. Rising from the waters of the Nile like a mirage, this sanctuary to the goddess Isis is one of Egypt’s most enchanting sites. Return to your ship after a day filled with nature, engineering marvels, and sacred history.
Day 8 Edfu & Monastic Heritage
(21 km/ 13 mi.)
A morning cruise brings you to Edfu. After lunch onboard, you cycle to the mighty Temple of Horus, one of Egypt’s best-preserved sanctuaries. Then, continue to the nearby St. Bakhamious Monastery, where early Christian traditions are still alive. In the evening, join a colorful Galabeya Party on board, donning traditional Egyptian dress and immersing yourself in the festive spirit.
Day 9 Luxor West Bank
(46 km/ 29 mi.)
A true highlight of the journey awaits: cycle across the Theban West Bank to the Valley of the Kings, guided by your Egyptologist as you explore the tombs of pharaohs carved deep into the rock over 3,000 years ago. Continue to the elegant Temple of Hatshepsut, learning about Egypt’s remarkable female ruler and her enduring legacy. Pause for a local lunch overlooking the agricultural fields, alternating before or after the temple visit in small groups. Your ride concludes past alabaster workshops and fertile farmland, where everyday life continues in timeless rhythms. Enjoy your last evening on board of the H/S Nebu with a festive farewell dinner.
Day 10 Luxor – Cairo
This morning, disembark from the H/S Nebu and take your included flight to Cairo, a city where ancient history meets modern energy. After lunch, explore the Citadel of Saladin, taking in sweeping views over the city and visiting the exquisite Alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali, a masterpiece of Ottoman architecture. On the way, glimpse Old Cairo, where narrow streets and centuries-old traditions shape daily life. In the evening, check in to the five-star Renaissance Cairo Mirage City Hotel, where dinner is included, offering a luxurious end to a day of discovery.
Day 11 Sakkara & Coptic Cairo
Travel to Sakkara to see the extraordinary Step Pyramid, the world’s first monumental stone structure and a milestone in ancient architecture. Nearby, visit traditional workshops where artisans continue age-old crafts, offering insight into Egypt’s enduring creative heritage. After lunch, continue to Coptic Cairo, where ancient churches and synagogues stand side by side, telling the story of Egypt’s diverse religious traditions. In the evening, explore vibrant New Cairo at your own pace, with dinner at leisure and tips from your guides on the best local spots.
Day 12 Cycling the Giza Plateau
(7 km/ 4 mi.)
The grand finale of your journey begins with an extraordinary privilege: cycling directly on the Giza Plateau, pedaling past the Great Pyramids of Cheops, Chephren, and Mykerinos, and standing face-to-face with the timeless Sphinx. Guided by your Egyptologist, experience a perspective no other travelers enjoy. The day continues with a visit to the vast new Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), where you have lunch and where you can admire treasures from over 5,000 years of history on a breathtaking scale. In the evening, gather for a final dinner with your fellow travelers, celebrating memories of a truly unforgettable adventure.
Day 13 Cairo – Departure
Depending on your booked flight, after breakfast at the Hotel you can transfer to Cairo International Airport for your onward flight. Cycling Tour Requirements

LEVEL 3 / 5
Cycling tours through hilly terrain with longer ascents of up to approximately 250 meters. Suitable for cyclists who ride regularly and can confidently navigate varying surface conditions.

Distance:
7 - 51 km per day

Total elevation:
200 - 600 meters of elevation per day

Road condition:
70% paved road, 30% on unpaved roads

Traffic:
Traffic is to be expected in and around the town of Luxor.

Infrastructure:
Dedicated bike lanes are rare in Egypt, so the bike tours take place on public roads, preferably on quiet side streets.

Relevant for all levels:
Safe cycling skills and familiarity with road traffic are prerequisites for taking part in our tours. All tours, including the elevation gains, can be mastered more easily with electronic assistance. Anyone renting an e-bike should already have experience and be confident in handling e-bikes, as these bikes are significantly heavier and faster than conventional bikes.

Individual program:
This tour is primarily a guided group tour. You are free to set aside a half or full day to spend on board the boat, instead of taking a planned bike tour.

Group riding pace

At our tours, one thing is especially important to us when it comes to our cycling tours: this is your vacation – your enjoyment and relaxation. That’s why we never want you to feel pressured while biking. There is always plenty of time to complete each tour at your own pace.

Noise on board

Please do not forget that the ship is your hotel as well as a machine, which has to be maintained and operated – day and night. A certain level of noise is therefore inevitable.

Visum

Most nationalities need a visa for Egypt. North American and European passport holders will get a visa at the airport with the services of BBT ground staff. Others may need to apply online first. Please independently check with the Egyptian embassy in your home country regarding the entry requirements that apply to you for Egypt. Please note that your passport needs to be valid at least 6 months from the date of arrival in Egypt with at least one blank page.

BoatBikeTours accepts no liability for any incorrect information.

Vaccinations

Currently, there are no mandatory vaccinations required for travelers entering Egypt directly from the United States, Canada, or Great Britain. An exception applies to travelers arriving from a yellow fever endemic area or who have stayed in such an area within the last six days — in this case, proof of a valid yellow fever vaccination in the international vaccination certificate is required.

Recommended vaccinations depend on the duration and type of travel and generally include routine immunizations according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), or the UK’s NHS guidelines. These typically cover: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Rabies, and Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis. For longer stays or trips to rural areas, additional vaccination advice and preventive measures may be necessary.

We recommend consulting your healthcare provider at least two months before your trip to receive personalized advice and ensure all vaccinations are up to date. More detailed information and travel health recommendations can be found on the official websites:
