An undiscovered natural paradise along the Turkish coast

The Gulf of Gökova, stretching between the historic city of Bodrum and the spectacular Datça-Peninsula, is a true scenic gem, and a highlight among our cycling tours in Turkey. Completely spared from mass tourism, it is here that Turkey shows its true colours, making it the ideal location for an unforgettable active holiday. Untamed nature with fantastic panoramas, small harbours, wonderfully clear water, and historical highlights are just a taste of what makes the Gökova Gulf so special, an area well worth exploring by bike and boat!

Itinerary

1st Day
Bodrum (Embarkation)
Individual arrival to Bodrum harbour. A collective transfer from Bodrum Airport to the harbour is available for an extra cost on request. Check in begins on the Gullet at 2 pm. Use the evening hours to enjoy the lively atmosphere in the city of Bodrum and relax with a typical Turkish tea. In the evening, a shared dinner on board can be enjoyed in the company of your travel companions and tour guides.
2nd Day Bodrum - Yalıҁiftlik
(aprx. 23 mi./38 km)
Morning cruise to Yaliciftlik. From here we start our first bike ride through the local pine forests to Camlik where we will have the chance to refresh ourselves with a short coffee break. We continue cycling through silver-green olive groves to the small village of Etrim. Ancestors of the Turkmen tribes continue to live semi-nomadic lives in the region. We can marvel at their fascinating hand crafts and during a lunch break at a local restaurant we can discover some local cuisine. After lunch we return to Yalıҁiftlik where we can enjoy a swim in the afternoon at the nearby beach, followed by dinner on board. Overnight stay in Yaliciftlik.
3rd Day Yalı Çiftlik - Mazı – Akbük
(aprx. 26 mi./41 km)
From Yalı Çiftlik, our bike tour takes us inland through the scenic natural landscape before we head back to Mazı on the coast. Here, our ship awaits us for lunch on board. We relax for the two and a half hours crossing to Akbük, a charming little harbour where we can enjoy the afternoon swimming. Dinner on board and overnight in Akbük.
4th Day Akbük – Akyaka
(aprx. 19.4 mi./31 km)
In the morning, a shuttle takes us from Akbük to the charming mountain village of Sarnıçköy. The bike tour leads us to the neighbouring village of Akyaka, where we can stop to admire the ancient rock tombs. This picturesque village is characterized by a pseudo-Seljuk-Ottoman architecture with significant wooden elements, unique to Turkey. This unique piece was designed by award-winning architect Nail Cakirhan. A short stroll through the village is well worthwhile. Dinner on board and overnight in Akyaka.
5th Day Akyaka – Ҁamlı
(aprx. 21 mi./34 km)
A round trip by bike around Akyaka takes us inland, away from the coast. On the way we enjoy an abundance of nature and the solitude of this landscape before returning to Akyaka for lunch. Afterwards, we head to the picturesque Ҁamlı bay, where we can take a refreshing swim. Dinner on board and overnight in Ҁamlı.
6th Day Ҁamlı – English Bay - Yedi adalar
(aprx. 12.5 mi./20 km)
Today's bike tour takes us from Ҁamlı through small villages and fragrant pine forests to the picturesque English Bay. In this beautiful bay there will be plenty of time to swim to your heart's content. After the bike ride, we have one and a half hours to relax on board and enjoy the sun and the salty sea air while we cruise to Yedi Adalar (Seven Islands). Dinner on board and overnight on anchor.
7th Day
Yedi Adalar – Körmen – Knidos
(aprx. 26 mi./42 km)
The morning crossing takes us to Körmen on the Datça Peninsula, which we explore by bike. A first ascent leads us to a height of 450 m/1.480 ft, before we get to enjoy the descent back to the sea with a beautiful view over the Greek islands Nisyros, Tilos and Rhodes. The path leads us on a scenic road along the coast before entering the suburban outskirts of Knidos. After a visit to the impressive archaeological site, we spend the night in one of the most picturesque bays on the Turkish coast.
8th Day Knidos - Bodrum (Disembarkation)
After breakfast on board, we get to enjoy the sea air one last time on the crossing back to Bodrum. Once in Bodrum, it is time to say goodbye to your ship, the crew, and tour guides. Check-out and (if any) transfer to the airport and individual travel back home or extension of your holiday in Turkey.

Arrival - How to get there

Port of embarkation

This tour begins and ends in Bodrum or in Yalı Çiftlik, which belongs to the city district of Bodrum. It can be easily reached by airplane via Bodrum Airport (BJV). In order to avoid any travel complications whilst crossing the borders, we request that all guests obtain the appropriate travel documentation and visas before arrival on site.

Check in begins at 2 pm.

Berth Admiral

Embarkation on the Admiral takes place in Yalı Çiftlik, a small vilage just under 14 km away from Bodrum town. As the village only has one pier, you can‘t miss the ship. The small jetty is located directly at the Belediyesi YALI Fish Restaurant (on the right side of the beach as seen from the shore). As soon as you stand on the beach of Yali Ciftlik you will already see the boat.

open location

Berth Boreas (Bodrum Harbour)

Should you wish to make your own way to the boat, you will find the Boreas in the big yacht harbour (when looking out to sea, on the right-hand side of the fortress of St. Peter). Most commonly it will be moored next to the Datca Ferry dock. The specific mooring of the ships will only be decided the evening before the trip.

Open Site Plan

Arrival by plane

A flight is the fastest, easiest, and most economical way to get to Turkey.

The closest airport is Bodrum (BJV). Most flights go to Izmir airport (ADB), which is situated about three hours from Bodrum. During the high season it is also possible to fly directly to Bodrum Airport.

When you book your flight, we ask you to choose a return flight with a departure time during noon or the afternoon hours so that we can facilitate a stress free journey home for you.

From the airport to the harbour

On the days of embarkation and disembarkation we will gladly organize joint transfers between the airport of Bodrum and the ship in the port of Bodrum free of charge.

Individual transfers on other days or for other routes are possible for a surcharge:

Additional nights in Bodrum

We are happy to arrange additional nights with breakfast in Bodrum, the starting point of your trip. Bodrum, the ancient Halicarnassus, is one of the liveliest coastal towns in Turkey. It owes its importance above all to its coastal location and its beautiful seafront promenade which comes to life in the evening with street artists, restaurants, bars, and a beautiful view over the sea. There are also many cultural sights and great beaches.

Extension program in Istanbul

With so much to see in Istanbul, you surely want to see it all! If so, we recommend our 3-day additional program in the metropolis on the Bosporus for a truly incredible holiday experience.  Istanbul is the only city in the world that bridges two continents. Important information

Spoken language

Due to our international audience all Islandhopping tours are conducted bilingually, in English and German.

Itinerary changes

We reserve the right to make changes to the itinerary, depending on wind and weather conditions or organizational requirements. Sometimes the tour will be run in reverse order. Our tours are dependent on weather conditions and the final decision is that of the captain. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend time on board the boat, instead of taking a planned bike-tour.

Requirements

Level 2

The daily tours average in length between 10mi. – 25 mi./16km - 40 km and lead predominantly through hilly and mountainous terrain and can be completed without time constraints. Participants will also need to master longer, steep climbs, during which they are of course permitted to push their bicycles. Most of the roads are asphalted and rarely frequented by traffic. . Your tour guide will inform you each day about the tour details. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend on board the boat, instead of taking a planned bicycle tour.

Requirement to wear a helmet

Helmets are mandatory on our bike tours. It is advised to bring your own, well fitted, helmet with you as our rental helmet numbers are limited (reservation required).

Bringing children

We believe that only children in a good physical condition and with a minimum age of 10 and previous bicycle tour experience are able to master the cycle tours with their own strength. Please note that the minimum height for a rental ebike is 1.50 m (5 ft.).

For the best tour experience with children, we recommend our Multi-Adventure Cruises in Croatia or Greece. We are convinced that these itineraries provide the best all-round experience for each individual family member.

Bringing private bikes & exclusion of private e-bikes

The tour which you have booked requires an e-bike in top technical condition. Islandhopping can offer you high quality, fully serviced rental bikes perfect for the terrain of this tour.

We do not allow you to bring your own e-bike due to the safety regulations on ship as well as ensuring the safety of our employees. If you would like to ride an e-bike, please rent one from our inventory.

If you bring your own tour or hybrid bike, please check the condition of brakes, gears and tires as well bringing repair kits and essential spare parts (e.g. inner tube). Your bike must be in top technical condition. Please keep in mind that transporting your own bicycle will result in relatively high additional costs (particularly when flying) and the risk of transport damages is high.

Disclaimer: Radurlaub Zeitreisen GmbH will not be held liable for any damages caused to private bikes during loading, unloading or other logistical handling thereof.

Noise on board

Please do not forget that the ship is your hotel as well as a machine, which has to be maintained and operated – day and night. A certain level of noise is therefore inevitable.

Internet availability

Our Turkish boats do not offer a WiFi connection. If you need to connect to the internet during the tour, we recommend bringing your portable electronic device to a cafe or bar somewhere in the harbour. Free WiFi is on offer almost everywhere. If you order something to eat or drink, then you are able to use the WiFi to your hearts content.

Travel recommendation for groups with varying biking interests (MTB & hybrid cycling)

This tour sometimes takes place parallel to our Mountainbike Gulf of Gökova tour on the same boat. One tour guide accompanies the mountain bikers whilst the other accompanies the hybrid cyclists. This type of tour is perfect for travellers who would like to spend their holiday together, but do not share the same bike preferences.
