1st Day Krk town, Hotel (Arrival)
Once you have arrived and checked into your hotel, you can familiarize yourself with your new surroundings. Begin your holiday with a stroll through the streets of Krk; savour a delicious ice cream or enjoy a swim in the beautiful sea. The first briefing and introductions with your guide take place at 6 pm in the hotel lobby. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the in-house bike centre. We are always happy to help!
2nd Day Krk - Glavotok
(aprx. 40 km, 700 m of elevation)
The first MTB tour of the week begins after breakfast. Today we explore Krk town and the western part of the island by bike. The first stage takes us to the small fishing village of Glavotok, where we have time to enjoy a refreshing swimming break. Pine forests, wide nature trails and a few moderate climbs characterize our first cycling day. In preparation for the days to come, we ride a few short yet varied trails. Afterwards we head back to Krk town, where we have plenty of time to take a stroll, have a swim, or relax at the hotel.
3rd Day Krk - Vrbnik - Krk
(aprx. 43 km, 850 m of elevation)
Countless olive trees and the vineyards and the town of Vrbnik, once a legendary pirate's nest and now home to the famous Žlahtina wine, are the iconic characteristics of Krk. Today’s tour leads us first through olive groves, where we can bike between and on dry-stone walls. Fantastic views, great, technically demanding trails, and secluded beaches make this tour an unforgettable experience. After a longer break during which we have the opportunity to taste some local delicacies we head back to the hotel.
4th Day Cres island
(aprx. 33 km, 900 m of elevation)
Today we “hop” over to the island of Cres to discover the beauties of this near forgotten island. Once we have arrived on Cres a transfer takes us to the starting point of our tour. Our ride begins at the top of the hill from where we can enjoy a breath-taking view over the bay and the old town of Cres. Varied flow trails lead through the olive groves around the town of Cres to the historic town centre. Here we get to know the colourful history of this island and the countless natural wonders it has to offer. Of course, we also have the opportunity to taste some of the island’s specialties before a transfer brings us back to the small ferry port on the other side of the island. We arrive back at the hotel in the late afternoon.
5th Day Krk - Baška
(aprx. 35 km, 800 m of elevation)
One of Krk’s highlights is undeniably the small town of Baška, located on the south-eastern side of the island. This town is truly stunning, lying secluded on a large, idyllic bay. The journey there is a unique experience itself. The landscape around Baška is characterized by one of the strongest winds in the world, the notorious bora of the Velebit Mountains, which can reach up to 250 km/h. Here, the bora has created an amazing "moonscape", a rocky desert that is incredible to bike through! Partially blocked trails and steeper climbs demand good riding technique. The view over Baška with its two-kilometre-long pebble beach and the great descent down towards the sea are the highlights of the day’s tour. Once in Baška there is plenty of time to enjoy lunch, swim in the sea, or simply relax in this tranquil paradise. A transfer brings us back to the hotel in Krk.
6th Day Malinska – Dobrinj – Klimno – Omišalj
(aprx. 35 km, 550 m of elevation)
A transfer brings us close to Malinska, from where we begin the day’s adventure riding along a beautiful forest path. After a short ascent on an asphalted road, we reach Dobrinj, a beautiful old town on a hill with a wonderful view over the northern part of the island. After a coffee break it is time to have fun: a single trail leads from Dobrinj down to the sea. Afterwards we bike to the famous bay of Soline, where we can enjoy a short swim and the bay’s healing mud. We then continue along the bay of Čižići before following a stony trail through another lunar landscape to a fascinating stalactite cave, a natural wonder well worth the visit! Afterwards, we continue to Omišalj, where we can once more enjoy a refreshing swim in the blue Adriatic Sea and refuel with lunch. In the late afternoon, a transfer brings us back to Krk town. Celebrate the eventful week by enjoying an incredible sunset as it casts its warm colours across the Adriatic.
7th Day Krk town (Departure)
Individual departure after breakfast or extended holiday in Croatia.

Itinerary changes

We reserve the right to make changes to the planned route due to changing wind and weather conditions, and where required by organizational necessities.

Requirements

MTB-Level 2

Easy to more challenging day trips ranging between 18 mi. – 28 mi./30 km – 45 km, with an average of 2,624 ft./800 m of total elevation. The routes include partly hilly stages and trails up to level S2 of the single trail classification, however most of the trails are easier with S1 difficulty. The mountain bike routes are as varied as the landscapes on Krk: the trips vary from day to day and therefore offer plenty of biking variety. We ride along wide forest paths, small back roads, fun single trails, flow trails, and narrow forest tracks. There is an accompanying transfer vehicle on all the tours, so should you need the support, you can easily master the longest and steepest climbs by car. Your guide can easily avoid S2 and S3 trails if necessary or customize the routes according to the group’s riding skills.

Single-Trail Classification

To ensure that you are well prepared for your bike tour with Islandhopping and know what technical difficult level to expect, we have created a classification for all single trails that could be ridden on our tours. The difficulty levels included in our classification coincide with the Single Trail Scale which can be found here

Blue (easy, S0 – S1): small obstacles such as small roots, small stones, some erosion, gradients of up to 40 %, loose surfaces, tight corners but no hairpins, obstacles can be rolled over. Skilful braking and weight shift required, riding while standing.

Red (medium, S2): loose surfaces, larger stones and roots, steps and shallow stairs, gradients of up to 70 %, light hairpins. Constant readiness to brake, shift of centre weight to overcome obstacles, accurate braking, consistent body tension required.

Black (heavy, S3 – S5): blocked single trails, many large boulders, and roots, smooth/slippery surfaces, loose scree slopes, large steps/drops, extremely steep gradients of over 70 %, tight hairpins. Expert level of bike control/handling required.

Requirement to wear a helmet

Helmets are mandatory on our bike tours. It is advised to bring your own, well fitted, helmet with you as our rental helmet numbers are limited (reservation required). Furthermore, we recommend riders to carry arm and leg protectors during the bike tours.

Group Riding Pace

On our regular bike tours the riding pace is determined by the cyclists on regular bikes. We ask guests who have reserved an e-MTB to be mindful of this and to acknowledge that the regular cyclists need time to rest and longer to climb the hills. We thank you for your understanding.

Bringing private bikes

The tour which you have booked requires a bike with a fully functional set of gears. Islandhopping can offer you high quality, fully serviced rental bikes perfect for the terrain of this tour.

Should you however wish to bring your own bicycle with you, please make sure to check the condition of your breaks, gears, and tires and don’t forget to bring along a puncture repair kit and the essential spare parts for your bike (e.g. brake pads and spare tubes). Your bike should be in prefect mechanical working order.

We do not recommend bringing along private road bikes, as the thin tires are not suitable for some of the road surfaces encountered on the tours.

Liability disclaimer: Radurlaub Zeitreisen GmbH. Will not be held liable for any damages caused to private bikes during loading, unloading or other logisitical handling thereof.

Catering on board

The travel price includes six half board (breakfast and dinner at the hotel) as well as three lunches in a local restaurant, a picnic, and a wine-tasting. Catering starts with the dinner on the day of arrival and ends with the breakfast on the day of departure.
