MTB Cruise National Parks of Dalmatia Standard

MTB Cruise National Parks of Dalmatia Standard (8 Days/7 Nights, approx. 160 km , 2000 hm)

MTB Cruise National Parks of Dalmatia: Spend a week on a charming motorsailer and travel on our “green” Tour to National Parks of Croatia. Experience the waterfalls of the National Park Krka, join the unforgettable cruise across the Kornati Islands. Countless natural beauties and phenomena are waiting to be discovered; living history wants to be seen within Šibenik and Zadar.

Venture into the heart of the National Parks landscapes on this off-road adventure. Explore the virgin beauty of Croatia’s protected scenic landscapes as you bike along mostly wide panoramic trails in the greenest regions of Dalmatia. This tour is a great way to get accustomed to cycling off-road, with a reasonable number of kilometres and meters of elevation but not too technically challenging – the perfect tour for enthusiastic MTB novices with a bunch of great opportunities to practice and perfect various riding techniques. The hilly landscape with partly challenging slopes requires good physical condition. The islands as well as the mainland vary greatly and offer a wide variety of trail terrain: wide natural paths as well as small side roads will be included in this tour.

This MTB tour takes place parallel to our trekking bike cruise National Parks of Dalmatia on the same boat. One tour guide takes care of the mountain bikers whilst the other one accompanies our trekking riders. If you have a partner or a friend, who prefers cycling to biking, don’t hesitate to bring him/her with you. So you can have a common vacation and indulge in your favorite hobbies during the daytime.

Itinerary

1st Day (Sat) Trogir (Embarkation) – Rogoznica

Individual arrival either by car to Trogir or by plane to Split. Embarkation takes place between 2 and 2:30 pm. First crossing starts at 3 pm leading us to Rogoznica – a village on a small island which is connected to the mainland by a dam. Here we spend our first night.

2nd Day (Sun) Rogoznica – Primošten – Šibenik - Skradin (aprx. 15 mi./24 km; 1,150 ft./ 350 m of elevation)

In the morning we bike with a little inland detour from Rogoznica to Primošten. The marvelous view onto the cosy islands will charm you. From there the boat takes us to the city of Šibenik to the spot where the Krka River flows into the Adriatic Sea. After visiting the famous cathedral and the lovely old town we set off again. On the cruise we pass the lower course of the river Krka following the river bend until we reach Skradin. In the port of the village we spend our night.

3rd Day (Mon) National Park of Krka – Skradin - Vodice (aprx. 12.5 mi./20 km, 820 ft./250 m of elevation)

The magnificent port of Skradin is today’s starting point for our excursion by boat and on foot to the most famous part of the Krka National Park with its unique waterfalls. In the early afternoon the boat brings us to Vodice, a well known holiday destination on the mainland. From here we ride along a variation of tracks in a round tour through the Dalmatian hinterland. Overnight stay in Vodice.

4th Day (Tue) Vodice - Island of Murter - Nature Park Telašćica (aprx. 19 mi./30 km, 985 ft./300 m of elevation)

In the morning we bike from Vodice to Murter Island that is connected to the mainland by the lift bridge at Tisno. We pass the bridge and cycle along the water front, passing by two very old coastal villages, until we reach a small landing place from where the boat takes us on a cruise through the National Park Kornati, an archipelago in crystal clear water which is known for its rich aquatic realm. Our destination is the Nature Park Telašćica. In the evening a walk through the park leads us along the stunning cliffs of the island. The famous Silver Lake – known by movies of Winnetou – is also located in the Nature Park. Overnight stay on the Island of Dugi Otok.

5th Day (Wed) Island of Dugi Otok – Zadar (aprx. 19 mi./30 km, 1,475 ft./450 m of elevation)

After breakfast we take a short crossing to Sali. Today’s bike ride leads us across the long island. During the ride we’re treated to countless unforgettable vistas of the islands in the deep blue sea. We meet our ship for a crossing to Zadar, which, for centuries, was the political, cultural and spiritual centre of Dalmatia. Our tour guide takes us on an extensive walk through the lanes of the lively old centre. 3,000 years of history have left their imprint on the character of this town and there are many things to be admired: the mighty fortified walls with their bastions, the loggia but also the early Romanesque St. Donatus Basilica.

6th Day (Thu) Islands of Ugljan and Pašman – Island of Zlarin (aprx. 22 mi./35 km, 820 ft./250 m of elevation)

During breakfast the boat crosses to the island of Ugljan at the channel of Zadar. Today we have a lot of time to explore both of the islands Ugljan and Pašman by bike, which are connected by a bridge. We bike with beautiful views to the mainland and the ocean. Afterwards our boat cruises to the coral island of Zlarin.

7th Day (Fri) Island of Šolta- Trogir (aprx. 12.5 mi./20 km, 1,150 ft./350 m of elevation)

In the morning our motor yacht takes us to the island of Šolta. Walled fields, numerous olive groves, locust bean and fig trees line nature paths. Notes of rosemary accompany us along our tour through this island. We load the bikes onto the ship in Maslinica and enjoy our last crossing back to Trogir, where we have enough time to visit the World Heritage listed old town, before our cozy farewell evening on board the boat.

8th Day (Sat) Trogir (Disembarkation)

The guests are asked to check out after breakfast, i. e. around 9 am. Individual trip home or extend your holidays in Croatia.

Ships

Kapetan Jure (Comfort)

At 27 x 7 m the Kapetan Jure built in 2000, counts as one of the smallest ships of our Croatian fleet. With an impressive 100 navigated tours she entered the Islandhopping history book. The fine detail etched into the wooden ship mirrors the seafaring aff ection of its captain. The Kapetan Jure provides 15 cosy guest cabins each with air conditioning, shower and WC. A spacious living room suite on the quarterdeck and a sundeck with cushioned sleeping mats play a part in contributing to the welcoming atmosphere.

San Snova (Premium)

The wooden motor cruiser San Snova, 31 x 8 m in size, took to the water in 2009 and has worked exclusively with Islandhopping ever since. This magnificent construction took shape over the course of three years and sets a milestone in the boat building scene in Croatia as it is the last wooden boat of its kind to be built. The 14 guest’s cabins are welcoming and equipped with air conditioning and a private shower/WC. The salon and its wooden finish provides a comfortable and friendly atmosphere, supported by the many seating arrangements on deck as well as the possibility to lie comfortably on the sun deck. The crew on board pay special attention to cleanliness and maintenance on board and radiate a friendly and inviting atmosphere to the guests on board.

Romantica (Premium)

At 32 x 7.6 m the Romantica was launched in 2007 and is a shapely two mast motor yacht which combines seafaring romance with the spirit of the age, style and comfort. One of the most important things for the captain is the smart appearance of his ship. Both salon and exterior have upscale facilities with a lot of fine details: the salon tables are decorated with noble intarsia, the corresponding benches are covered with precious, sun yellow leather. The large sundeck on the Romantica offers plenty of space to settle back and enjoy the sun.

Things to note

Language aboard

Due to our international audience all Islandhopping tours are conducted bilingually, in English and German.

Itinerary changes

We reserve the right to make changes to the planned itinerary due to changing wind and weather conditions as well as organizational requirements. If necessary the tour will be operated in reverse.

MTB Level 1-2, S0-S2

Sporty daily tours with partly mountainous stages of about 12,5 to 22 mi./20 to 35 km and 820 to 1,475 ft./250 to 450 m of elevation and trails officially defined by the European single trail scale as levels S0 – S1, very rarely S2. The mountain bike terrain is very diverse as is the landscapes of the different islands. The hilly to mountainous terrain with some steep ascents requires good physical condition. The islands are very different from one another and have a correspondingly large amount of variety while biking: wide natural trails, small side roads, Roman roads, great promenades and narrow paths run across the island.

Helmets are mandatory on our bike tours. It is advised to bring your own, well fitted, helmet with you as our rental helmet numbers are limited (reservation required). Furthermore, we recommend riders to carry arm and leg protectors during the bike tours. Our tours are dependent on weather conditions and the final decision is that of the captain. This tour is primarily a guided group tour. Upon consultation with your tour guides, the possibility to cycle on your own along recommended, suitable routes, may present itself. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend time on board the boat, instead of taking a planned bike-tour.

Single-Track Classification
So that you are well prepared for your bike tour at Islandhopping, and that you know which technicality grade you should await to be confronted by, we have have comprised a classification for all single trails which you will ride. The difficulty levels included in our classification coincide with the German Singeltrail-Skala.

Blue (easy, S0 – S1): small obstacles such as small roots, small stones, small gully erosion, gradients of up to 40 %, loose surfaces, tight corners but no hairpins, skilful braking and weight shift required, riding while standing, obstacles can be rolled over.

Red (medium, S2): loose surfaces, larger stones and roots, steps and shallow stairs, gradients of up to 70 %, light hairpins, permanent braking readiness, displacement of centre of mass to overcome obstacles, accurate braking, permanent body tension.

Black (heavy, S3 – S5): blocked single trails, many large boulders and roots, smooth/slippery surfaces, loose scree slopes, large steps/drops, extremely steep gradients of over 70 %, tight hairpins, expert level of bike control/handling.

Catering

The on-board chef is a member of the crew and prepares the breakfast and one or two warm meals a day. The catering consists of 4 x full board and 3 x half board. Catering starts with the dinner on the arrival day and ends with the breakfast on the departure day.

Which payment methods are accepted on board?

We do not acept credit cards on board of our boats. Payments such as drinks, tourist taxes, parking spaces etc. can be made in cash only. The accepted currency on board is CASH, either in the countries local currency or in Euro. Your local guide will point you in the right direction of the nearest ATM or currency conversion office.

Weight Limit of Bikes Brought on Board

Please be aware, that we have a weight limit of 22 kg (48.5 lb), if you bring your own bike/e-MTB on board of one of our boats. This limit is important to protect the health of our guides/crew members, than they have to lift the bikes on board.

If we consider it necessary, we will check the weight on site. If the weight limit is exceeded, we reserve the right to refuse taking the bike on board.

Our ships

Please do not forget that the ship is your hotel as well as a machine, which has to be maintained and operated – day and night. A certain level of noise is therefore inevitable.
