Bicycle Cruise South Greek Aegean from Marmaris

Bicycle Cruise South Greek Aegean from Marmaris

(8 Days/7 Nights, approx. 143 km )

By bicycle and boat we will explore the Dodecanese islands in the Southern Greek Aegean. Let yourself be mesmerized by the towering volcano crater of Nissyros or the charm of Symi with its wonderful neo-classical buildings of the island capital.

A highlight is Kos with its lively town and its Greek, Ottoman and Italian history. The towering fortification walls of the Crusader castle on Rhodes will also leave a lasting impression as well as the rock throwing Poseidon or the famous sponge divers of Symi: all have left behind their legacy in form of legends and historical constructions that contribute to the unique character of these islands.

Please note: On some dates this trip is offered with a similar itinerary as Bicycle Cruise South Greek Aegean from Bodrum.

Highlights of the tour
Culture: A stroll through the very well-preserved crusader's town on Rhodes
Nature: the volcanic island of Nissyros
Activity: Climb the 500 steps to the upper town of Symi!
Culinary: Mezes, the tasty Greek starters!

1st Day (Sat) Marmaris (Embarkation)

Alternatively, you can fly to Rhodes Airport and take the ferry across to Marmaris for check in (before booking the flight please check the ferry schedule). Use the evening hours to enjoy the lively vibe in the city of Marmaris and relax with a typical Turkish tea. In the evening a dinner together on board can be enjoyed in the company of your travel companions and tour guides.

2nd Day (Sun) Marmaris – Rhodes Town (aprx. 10 km/6 mi.)

After breakfast crossover to the city of Rhodes, which takes approx. 4 hours. After arrival the bikes will be adjusted and we will undertake an exciting voyage of discovery with our tour guide through the 2400-year-old island’s history. The deer and the hind at the entrance of the port of Mandraki will be the first occasion to use our cameras. It is still debated whether or not the famous Colossus of Rhodes ever stood here. From here the tour continues to the ancient site of Monte Smith with the great stadium and the sanctuary of Apollo. Subsequently we will explore the crusader town with its imposing walls and fortress.

3rd Day (Mon) Rhodes Island – Tilos Island – Nissyros Island (aprx. 22 km/14 mi.)

Early in the morning we cast off for a longer cruise to the quaint island of Tilos, a popular port of call for sailors. On arrival we step on land and start off on a bike tour from Livadia to Megalochorio. In the late afternoon we can relax on board during the cruise to the Volcanic Island of Nyssiros and enjoy the sea breeze. As the boat nears the gigantic volcano you are able to make out the two small villages perched on the crater rim.

4th Day (Tue) Nissyros Island – Kos Island (aprx. 35 km/22 mi.)

We start today’s cycle tour to Nikia – a village built directly on the Stefanos crater rim at 1,400 ft./430 m above sea level. From here we can enjoy a fascinating view into the volcano crater. Not only the volcano but also the white houses and the numerous pebble mosaics bring great character to the village. From here we cycle on to the crater itself with its steaming sulphur springs and finally back to the small port town of Mandraki where our boat awaits to take us to the islands of Kos. On arrival a tour through the town teaches us of the island’s great past. The Roman forum, the fortress of the Knights of  St. John and the mosques from the time when Kos was part of the Ottoman empire stand shoulder to shoulder. The evening can be enjoyed relaxing in one of the town’s numerous bars and cafes.

5th Day (Wed) Kos Island – Symi Island (aprx. 28 km/17 mi.)

In the morning we we take a cycle trip to the world famous archaeological excavation site of Asklipion, where Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, practiced. From here we will travel on to Zia, an old Greek mountain village, which tempts us to stay with its numerous, cosy tavernas. In the afternoon we cross over to the island of Symi, where the boat anchors in the bay of the Byzantine monastery Panormitis, dedicated to St. Michael. The quiet bay offers a peaceful atmosphere for the evening in which we can enjoy a spectacular sunset and a quiet night on anchor.

6th Day (Thu) Symi Island (aprx. 21 km/13 mi.)

In the morning we pay the local monastery a visit. Thereafter we follow the motto – “off to the other side of the island!” Scaling several switchbacks we slowly conquer the hill, allowing ourselves enough time to enjoy the picturesque views on the way up. Our destination is the Islands capital of Symi, with its classical cityscape and harbor. In the evening we can climb to the upper part of Symi town. From the top we have a breath-taking view over the harbor and the coastline of the bay. An evening visit to a remote tavern enables us to enjoy the evening away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

7th Day (Fri) Bozburun Peninsula – Marmaris (aprx. 30 km/19 mi.)

From Symi it is only a stones throw away to the Turkish Bozburun Peninsula. In the morning we farewell Greece and enjoy a short morning cruise across to Turkey. Today’s cycle tour takes us from the village of Bozburun along quiet rural roads through hilly landscapes and along the coast. Along the way we visit the small mountain village of Bayir and pay a visit to the 1500 year old platanus tree at teh main square. It is said that walking once around the tree brings good health and prosperity. Strengthened by the experience, we conquer the last climb before enjoying the descent into the Ciftlik Bay where the boat awaits our arrival.  From here it is not far by boat to Marmaris where you spend a festive evening together with fellow guests, crew and guides reflecting on the experiences of the week together.

8th Day (Sat) Marmaris (Disembarkation)

After breakfast disembarkation. Fee-based collective transfers to Dalaman Airport on request. If you wish to fly home from the Island of Rhodes please check the boat timetable before booking your flight from Rhodes.

Extended stay

Extend your holiday!

Would you like to spend a couple of days in Akyaka in the surrounding regions of Marmaris before or after your bicycle cruise?

Akyaka: according to most visitors, the main attraction is the natural beauty of Akyaka, together with the biodiversity of the surrounding wetlands, where among other things, the now very rare European otter (lutra lutra) can be spotted. Especially in the winter months a number of bird species including herons, ibis, flamingos, and with a little luck even pelicans can be observed as they rest here on their journey south.

If you would like to spend some extra days in or around Marmaris, we recommend that you search for and book the right hotel for you at or

The day-tours average of 22 mi./35 km and take you through mainly hilly and mountainous terrain and will be completed without any time-constraints. There are also some extended climbs where walking your bicycle is of course permitted. Most of the roads are asphalted and rarely frequented. Your tour guide informs you each day about the tour details and physical requirements. Helmet use is mandatory on all cycle tours. You are strongly encouraged to bring your own (well-fitted) helmet. Cycle helmets are available on board in limited number (on request). You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend on board the boat, instead of taking a planned cycle tour.

If you order something to eat or drink, then you are able to use the WiFi to your hearts content.

Our Ships

Please do not forget that the ship is your hotel as well as a machine, which has to be maintained and operated – day and night. A certain level of noise is therefore inevitable.
