The Baltic Sea: A rugged region with a warm soul

The Baltic Sea, from the Latin Mare Balticum, is a European inland sea and is considered the largest brackish sea in the world. Rolling hills, stunning Baltic beaches, and wonderful sunshine make the Baltic Sea a dream holiday destination. On our Sail & Bike Rügen and Usedom tour (Reiselink) we explore a spectacular world brimming with photo motifs: lighthouses, beach huts, old monasteries, piers, brick buildings, and the enchanting countryside with animals peacefully grazing in the lush green meadows. This is a holiday sure to make any photographer’s heart rejoice!

Facts about Germany

Climate and Best Time to Travel

Germany borders two seas, the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. On average, the North Sea experiences temperatures of around 16 °C (61 °F) in July, while the Baltic Sea experiences temperatures of around 18 °C (64 °F). During the day, temperatures usually climb over 20 °C (68 °F), and at night, the average is 13 °C (55 °F). In winter, the moderating influence of the Gulf Stream and the North Atlantic Current is noticeable: During this time, temperatures hover around 0 °C (32 °F). Water temperatures on the coasts vary between 3 °C (37 °F) in winter and 17 °C (63 °F) in summer.

The German regions far from the coast are part of the cool temperate climate zone in the transition area between the maritime climate of Western Europe and the continental climate of Eastern Europe.

Für einen Radurlaub in Deutschland ist die beste Reisezeit von Mai bis September. Angenehme Durchschnittstemperaturen zwischen 16 und 25 °C machen auch anspruchsvolle Radtouren leicht möglich.
