From here we start our first bike ride through the local pine forests to Camlik where we will have the chance to refresh ourselves with a short coffee break. We continue cycling through silver-green olive groves to the small village of Etrim. Ancestors of the Turkmen tribes continue to live semi-nomadic lives in the region. We can marvel at their fascinating hand crafts and during a lunch break at a local restaurant we can discover some local cuisine. After lunch we return to Yaliciftlik where we board the boat and cruise to the island of Kos. A wealth of cultural sights in Kos town provide an insight into the town’s turbulent historical past including the Roman Forum, the Crusader fortress, and the mosques from the time when Kos was part of the Ottoman Empire. The evening can be spent in one of the numerous bars or cafes in the town.
3rd Day Kos Island/Kos Town - Nissyros Island
(aprx. 19 mi./30 km)
Today we bike in the direction of the world-famous archaeological excavation site of the Asclepion in Kos, the former home of Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine. Today’s cycle tour leads us first to Nikia - a mountain village built directly on the edge of the volcanic crater at 1,400 ft./430 m above sea level. From here we can enjoy a spectacular view into the crater of the volcano. The volcano, white houses, and numerous pebble mosaics are a truly special highlight of this tour. From here we cycle on along the crater with its steaming sulphur springs before heading back to the small port town of Mandraki where our boat is already waiting to take us to Tilos Island, inhabited since ancient times.
5th Day Tilos Island - Chalki island
(aprx. 14 mi./22 km)
Our morning bike ride takes us from Livadia to Megalochorio. Here, those interested have time to visit the pygmy elephant museum, before returning to the boat. The picturesque island capital offers a first impression of the classic architecture style which we will see on Symi.
6th Day Chalki Island – Symi Island
(aprx. 16 mi./25 km)
In the morning we sail to Panormitis Bay, which lies just off the island of Symi, to visit the local monastery. Afterwards, we head off for the other side of the island. Cycling up several switchbacks, we slowly conquer the hill, allowing ourselves enough time to enjoy the picturesque views on the way up. Our destination is the island’s capital, Symi, with its classical cityscape and harbour. In the evening, we can head to the upper part of Symi town. From the top we have a breath-taking view over the harbour and the coastline of the bay. Arrival by plane

A flight is the fastest, easiest, and most economical way to get to Turkey.

The closest airport is Bodrum (BJV). Most flights go to Izmir airport (ADB), which is situated about three hours from Bodrum. During the high season it is also possible to fly directly to Bodrum Airport.

When you book your flight, we ask you to choose a return flight with a departure time during noon or the afternoon hours so that we can facilitate a stress free journey home for you.

From the airport to the harbour

On the days of embarkation and disembarkation we will gladly organize joint transfers between the airport of Bodrum and the ship in the port of Bodrum free of charge.

Additional nights in Bodrum

We are happy to arrange additional nights with breakfast in Bodrum, the starting point of your trip. Bodrum, the ancient Halicarnassus, is one of the liveliest coastal towns in Turkey. It owes its importance above all to its coastal location and its beautiful seafront promenade which comes to life in the evening with street artists, restaurants, bars, and a beautiful view over the sea. There are also many cultural sights and great beaches.

Important information

Spoken language

Due to our international audience all Islandhopping tours are conducted bilingually, in English and German.

Itinerary changes

We reserve the right to make changes to the itinerary, depending on wind and weather conditions or organizational requirements. Sometimes the tour will be run in reverse order. Our tours are dependent on weather conditions and the final decision is that of the captain. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend time on board the boat, instead of taking a planned bike-tour.

Requirements

Level 2 - 3

Aside from two challenging cycle tours on Kalymnos and Kos, this trip can be counted as one of the less difficult Islandhopping trips. The cycling routes require a basic level of fitness, which you should have acquired through regular cycling. The routes can reach an altitude of 200 to 500 meters. The daily routes of around 20 – 45 km/12 – 28 mi. will take us up through hilly and mountainous terrain and can be completed without time constraints. You will also come across some longer and rather steep climbs, where walking your bike is of course permitted. Participants will also need to master long and steep climbs, during which they are, however, also permitted to push their bicycles. Upon consultation with your tour guides, it may be possible for you to cycle on your own along suitable, recommended routes.

Guided group pace

On most of our Bike & Boat tours you can choose between a hybrid bike and an e-bike. However, the guided group pace is based on the speed of the hybrid bike cyclists. Those who rent an e-bike on a hybrid bike tour are asked to show consideration for those who ride without electronic assistance. Hybrid bike cyclists need more breaks and more time to cycle the hills. We thank you for your understanding.

Requirement to wear a helmet

Helmets are mandatory on our bike tours. It is advised to bring your own, well fitted, helmet with you as our rental helmet numbers are limited (reservation required).

Bringing children

We believe that only children in a good physical condition and with a minimum age of 10 and previous bicycle tour experience are able to master the cycle tours with their own strength. Please note that the minimum height for a rental bike is 1.50 m (5 ft.) for hybrid bikes.

For the best tour experience with children, we recommend our Multi-Adventure Cruises in Croatia or Greece. We are convinced that these itineraries provide the best all-round experience for each individual family member.

Bringing private bikes & exclusion of private e-bikes

The tour which you have booked requires a bike with a fully functional set of gears. Islandhopping can offer you high quality, fully serviced rental bikes perfect for the terrain of this tour.

Should you however wish to bring your own hybrid bicycle with you, please make sure to check the condition of your breaks, gears, and tires and don’t forget to bring along a puncture repair kit and the essential spare parts for your bike (e.g. brake pads and spare tubes). Your bike should be in prefect mechanical working order.

We do not allow private e-bikes on board of our boats. This decision has been made due to health and safety regulations. If you wish to ride an e-bike for the duration of your tour, please get in touch with us about the rental options.

We do not recommend bringing along private road bikes, as the thin tires are not suitable for some of the road surfaces encountered on the tours.

Liability disclaimer: Radurlaub Zeitreisen GmbH. Will not be held liable for any damages caused to private bikes during loading, unloading or other logistical handling thereof.

Noise on board

Please do not forget that the ship is your hotel as well as a machine, which has to be maintained and operated – day and night. A certain level of noise is therefore inevitable.

Internet availability

Our Turkish boats do not offer a WiFi connection. If you need to connect to the internet during the tour, we recommend bringing your portable electronic device to a cafe or bar somewhere in the harbour. Free WiFi is on offer almost everywhere. If you order something to eat or drink, then you are able to use the WiFi to your hearts content.

Custom formalities when crossing the border

Our tour in the Southern Greek Aegean will start from Bodrum. In order to avoid any travel complications whilst crossing the borders, we request that all guests obtain the appropriate travel documentation and visas before arrival on site.
