Sail and bike adventure between Denmark and Sweden

Our multi-country Sail & Bike tour delights with the perfect balance of a sailing voyage and idyllic bike rides on the islands of Møn and Ven, as well as along the scenic shores of the Öresund Strait. The narrow Öresund strait- once one of the most important European trade routes - enchants with rich cultural heritage and historic harbor towns along the way. We delight in the beautiful sights that Copenhagen and Helsingør on the Danish side of the strait, as well as those of Malmö, Landskrona, and Helsingborg on the Swedish side, have to offer. We venture into the charming medieval old towns and delve into their rich history. The magnificent tall ship Atlantis, with its three masts, accompanies us on this Sail & Bike trip as a well-known vessel in our fleet. The sailboat is lovingly restored and transports us back in time to the era of great seafarers, creating an unforgettable experience.

Itinerary

Rødvig Helsingborg Roskilde København Klintholm Køge Landskrona Malmö Helsingør Arresø Ven Sjælland Falster Møn Norway Sweden Denmark Germany BALTIC SEA NORTH SEA SWEDEN
1st Day Copenhagen (Embarkation)
Individual arrival in Copenhagen, the famous and charming capital of Denmark. Your luggage can be left on the vessel from 3 pm onwards and if you like, you can pay a visit to the sculpture of the Little Mermaid, Copenhagen’s most famous landmark, before check-in. The boat is ready to be boarded at 5:30 pm. After check-in, you will get to know the crew, the guide, and your fellow travelers with a welcome drink. Afterward, we will enjoy our first dinner aboard together with our fellow travelers and then get to know our vessel, Atlantis, as well as the security measures and our travel route for the week.
2nd Day Copenhagen – Helsingør – Hornbaek – Esrum - Helsingør (approx. 45 km)
In the early hours of dawn, the Atlantis departs from the port of Copenhagen and sets sail to Helsingør, nestled along the enchanting “Danish Riviera”. Here we begin our first round-trip cycling adventure. We first pass by vast sand beaches reminiscent of the southern islands of the Pacific and make our way to the charming harbor town of Hornbaek. From there we cycle inland through gently rolling hills to the town of Esrum, where we stop at the lake to admire the medieval monastery. After the short break, we cycle onward, traversing golden fields of grain and past impressive manor houses until our journey takes us back to Helsingør. The historical city is graced by the majestic Kronborg Castle, most well known as the setting of Shakespeare’s renowned play Hamlet. In the afternoon, the old town beckons with beautifully restored harbor buildings and a lively street food market, inviting us to indulge in a leisurely stroll after an exciting day.
3rd Day Helsingør – Helsingborg – Landskrona (approx. 28 km)
After a delightful one-hour ships crossing in the morning, we reach the port of Helsingborg on the Swedish side of the Öresund strait. Here we have ample time to visit the captivating city center. Once we have taken in all the sights Helsingborg has to offer we cycle along the Swedish coastline, passing the picturesque fishing village of Borstahusen until we reach the fortress town of Landskrona. The stunning citadel from the 16th century boasts two impressive moats that are almost entirely preserved. We can take the opportunity to visit the site and enjoy a first glimpse of tomorrow’s destination - the island of Ven.
4th Day Landskrona – Ven – Malmö (approx. 15 km)
In the morning we embark on our crossing to the island of Ven, where the Atlantis anchors and we are transported to shore alongside our bikes by a dinghy. The tiny island only measures 7.5km² and has less than 400 inhabitants, making it a quaint oasis. On today’s bike tour, we will have plenty of time to explore the entirety of this little gem with its captivating landscapes. Ven is home to many artists, artisans, and craftsmen. After our cycling tour, we have time to explore on our own. We can visit the ateliers of the painters, take a look into the workshops of the goldsmiths, visit the Whiskey distillery, or the observatory of renowned astronomer Tycho Brahe. After, our dinghy delivers us safely back aboard the Atlantis, we set sail to Mamö, where the next chapter of our journey awaits the next day.
5th Day Island of Møn (approx. 20 km)
In the morning we explore Malmö by bike. The third biggest city in Sweden is famously welcoming to cyclists and is hailed as one of the most bike-friendly cities in Europe. Malmö offers a captivating blend of historical charm with a modern, cosmopolitan atmosphere. The Turning Torso, a spiraling skyscraper and Sweden’s tallest building, towers majestically over medieval squares and brick facades. Later in the afternoon, the Atlantis sets sail for a lengthier crossing. Our destination is the stunning island of Møn. Here we anchor for the night and on a clear night we can admire the starry sky in all its splendor.
6th Day Island of Møn - Rødvig (approx. 30 km)
After our breakfast on board, we once again take the dinghy to shore. Today’s adventure is the exploration of the island of Møn. Departing from Klintholm Havn we cycle to the famous chalk cliffs Møns Klint, where the 130-meter-high chalk cliffs majestically rise from the sea. These dazzling, snow-white, and steeply staggered rock formations are reminiscent of the famous chalk cliffs of Rügen. At the GeoCenter of Møn, we have the opportunity to find out more about the cliffs, which are more than 70 million years old and especially rich in fossils. Subsequently, our cycling tour leads us through rolling hills, forests, and picturesque fields, passing by the charming Liselund Castle, a delightful sight to behold. We return to the port of Klintholm and once aboard depart on the Atlantis to Rødvig where we will spend another tranquil night anchored.
7th Day Rødvig – Køge - Malmö
(approx. 37km)
Once again, the skilled ship's crew is at our service and takes us and our bicycles safely ashore on the dinghy. Starting from Rødvig, our final cycling expedition of the week commences, and leads us past Gjorslev, Denmark's oldest castle, until we arrive in the charming town of Køge. Here our ship already awaits us in the harbor. There is still time for us to take a short stroll through the medieval old town before returning on board. As we embark on our last voyage to Malmö, we enjoy the sea breeze on our faces for one last time. In the evening, a farewell awaits us, as we join the crew and guide for a delightful meal on board. It is the perfect opportunity to look back on our wonderful multi-country journey of the last week.
8th Day Malmö (Disembarkation)
Check out after breakfast. For those wishing to return to Copenhagen, a train ticket from Malmö to Copenhagen is included in the tour price. Individual journey home or extend your stay in Denmark or Sweden.

Important information

Characteristic feature of the Tallship Atlantis

Our Tallship mostly does not fit into small fishing harbors and therefore spends the majority of their nights on anchor. This means that a dinghy transfer is necessary to get to land. Surefootedness and a certain degree of agility are required to get on and off the boat. Needless to say, our tour guides will lend you a helping hand. In general: Wind, swell and tidal differences have a significant influence on a Tallship journey.

Spoken language

Due to our international audience all Islandhopping tours are conducted bilingually, in English and German.

Itinerary changes

We reserve the right to make changes to the itinerary, depending on wind and weather conditions or organizational requirements. Sometimes the tour will be run in reverse order. Our tours are dependent on weather conditions and the final decision is that of the captain. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend time on board the boat, instead of taking a planned bike-tour.

Requirements

Level 2-3

Tours are of a moderate difficulty level and are generally fairly flat, ranging in length between of 15 to 30 miles/25 to 43 km on remote asphalt roads. Unpaved country roads are cycled at times. Main roads with heavy traffic and no separate cycle paths are only ever used in exceptional cases and for short distances. Long and steep climbs are rare, however, hilly countryside with regular ascents and descents do occur. Depending on the direction of the wind, there may be times where cycling into a strong headwind in necessary.

Guided group pace

On most of our Bike & Boat tours you can choose between a hybrid bike and an e-bike. However, the guided group pace is based on the speed of the hybrid bike cyclists. Those who rent an e-bike on a hybrid bike tour are asked to show consideration for those who ride without electronic assistance. Hybrid bike cyclists need more breaks and more time to cycle the hills. We thank you for your understanding.

Requirement to wear a helmet

Helmets are mandatory on our bike tours. It is advised to bring your own, well fitted, helmet with you as our rental helmet numbers are limited (reservation required).

Bringing children

We believe that only children in a good physical condition and with a minimum age of 10 and previous bicycle tour experience are able to master the cycle tours with their own strength. Please note that the minimum height for a rental bike is 1.50 m (5 ft.) for hybrid bikes.

For the best tour experience with children, we recommend our Multi-Adventure Cruises in Croatia or Greece. We are convinced that these itineraries provide the best all-round experience for each individual family member.

Bringing private bikes & exclusion of private e-bikes

The tour which you have booked requires a bike with a fully functional set of gears. Islandhopping can offer you high quality, fully serviced rental bikes perfect for the terrain of this tour.

Should you however wish to bring your own hybrid bicycle with you, please make sure to check the condition of your breaks, gears, and tires and don’t forget to bring along a puncture repair kit and the essential spare parts for your bike (e.g. brake pads and spare tubes). Your bike should be in prefect mechanical working order.

We do not allow private e-bikes on board of our boats. This decision has been made due to health and safety regulations. If you wish to ride an e-bike for the duration of your tour, please get in touch with us about the rental options.

We do not recommend bringing along private road bikes, as the thin tires are not suitable for some of the road surfaces encountered on the tours.

Liability disclaimer: Radurlaub Zeitreisen GmbH. Will not be held liable for any damages caused to private bikes during loading, unloading or other logistical handling thereof.

Luggage

Please bring your personal belongings in foldable travel bags. Please avoid hard protective cases. They will be too heavy to store within your cabin.

Catering

This tour includes full board. All days will include brakfast, lunch and dinner on board.

Payment on board

Payment by card is not possible on board

Noise on board

Please do not forget that the ship is your hotel as well as a machine, which has to be maintained and operated – day and night. A certain level of noise is therefore inevitable.
