Islandhopping More than a Holiday - since 1998 Islandhopping is your specialist for Bike & Boat, MTB & Boat, Road Bike & Boat, e-Bike & Boat active holidays as well as Multi-Adventure Cruises. Our programme also includes Hotel & Bike and MTB & Hotel tour itineraries.
It all began in Croatia It all started in Croatia with two students, a creative idea, and 60 adventurous Islandhopping-testers. The year was 1998. At the time, the company founder, Klaus Schenk, was unaware of the number of people who would fall in love with the travel concept in question. Due to the overwhelming success of the idea, the programme began to grow the following year with the addition of a trip through southern Dalmatia. With the project proving to be so promising, it made sense to give it a brand. A travel concept that leads to addiction What started out as two bicycle tours has grown, in the last 25 years, to our current total of 250 tours a year with over 6000 guests from all around the world. The years have gone by quickly as we have worked tirelessly on developing our travel offers, perfecting them to the point that we have received the ‘Sonntag Aktuell’ newspaper tourism prize twice along the way. Off to foreign shores - Islandhopping today Starting out as a trekking bike specialist in Croatia, Islandhopping has since developed into a versatile and specialist provider of bike & boat trips on various seas. Today, we offer trekking bike, e-bike, MTB, road bike racing cruises and family-friendly adventure tours in locations around the Mediterranean, Scotland, Denmark and even Vietnam. Our program also includes a selection of hotel and bike tours in South Africa, Albania and Greece. SWEET & SALTY The new motto moving forward is Sweet and Salty! In 2024, Islandhopping merges with Boat Bike Tours. The Dutch tour operator also specializes in boat and bike tours, but their focus is primarily on rivers and inland seas. The fusion creates a tour operator with two strong brands, branches in the Netherlands, Germany, Croatia and the United States, over 25,000 guests per year and more than 60 trips in 10 countries, which are operated on 38 unique ships. How it all began… A Story of Success Islandhopping today Fusion with Boat Bike Tours

Our Team Side by Side to Success The driving force behind Islandhopping is the supportive team around the managing director, Jacob Ketel. Twelve motivated employees in the Islandhopping HQ in Constance and many tourguides in our travel destinations make up the incredible team behind the brand. In addition to our employees, we have also worked closely with 16 ship owners and their trusted crew for many years. Our competent tour guides are incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to the languages and cultures of our travel destinations. Their skills in first aid, cultural presentations, and bike mechanics are refreshed annually during a multi-day company seminar. They each have their own wonderful personality, ever livening up the tour experience and making lasting memories for our guests to take home.

Around this time she also traveled through Thailand, New Zealand and Singapore. In April 2023 Jana was able to spend a week on the Magellan in Croatia on her first island hopping tour and she was thrilled! ‘The combination of ship & bike is simply ingenious! You get to know many places / islands in a short time all the while staying fit. This concept also avoids guests having to constantly re-pack their suitcases.’ Jana is of the opinion that you can never travel enough and it is never too late. He has always loved the travel and hospitality industry as shown by his years of experience working in Sales and Marketing for various luxury hotel brands in Canada and Europe. Before joining Islandhopping, he had no idea that this concept of bike and boat tours existed: ‘On my first trip in Turkey, I instantly realized why guests fall in love with the concept. It is a truly unique way to explore and, in my opinion, the perfect combination of biking, exploring, swimming and time on board the ship. The concept really is one of a kind.’ Jana Harms Content Online-Marketing close Jana Harms Jana has been supporting our Marketing Department in Konstanz since March 2024. However, her connection to Islandhopping goes back much further! As a dual student in Outdoor and Tourism Management, she experienced work as a Tour Operator in our company from 2019. In 2022, she worked as a tour guide on our ships in Croatia for the first time and enjoyed the experience so much that she returned in 2023. In her free time, Jana prefers to cycle with a tent and camping stove in her luggage. She is particularly fond of Scandinavia with its endless forests, pristine lakes and picturesque archipelago islands. There is hardly anything more fulfilling for her than setting up her tent right by the water after a long day of biking and enjoying the evening in the peaceful natural surroundings. Max Bachmann Working Student & Reservations close Max Bachmann Max joined our office team in Konstanz in October 2023. He is studying Outdoor Tourism Management at the Lake Konstanz Campus and is completing the practical part of this exciting course with us. This makes him a perfect fit for our team and he can now get a taste of all areas of Islandhopping’s business as part of his training. Max's motto is: "One backpack is enough for traveling!" He loves backpacking and is a real globetrotter. He particularly enjoyed the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia.
